How to tell the genders of quail? Specifically coturnix ? I’m going tomorrow to pick up laying quails as I didn’t want to start with chicks. I’m suppose to be getting four females. Just some pointers on what to look for gender wise.

Thanks!

I depends on the colour. There are several varieties that are feather sexable, but for those that aren't, you need to vent sex. Males will have a bulge and will produce foam when the bulge is gently pressed.

Here's a video that might help.
🤦‍♀️ ok. Chicken sexing way easier. I’ll give it a try. I’ll post them when I pick them up.

Thank you.

Quail are here. They are in the house for right now while I fill water and feeder. Then I’ll move them outside. Any thoughts on color and gender?

We'll have a much better chance of helping you if you give us good shots of the heads and breasts. I've noted below if they are feather sexable or not. If not, you will need to vent sex.

Colours:
1- Egyptian, I think (feather sexable)
2 - Pharaoh (feather sexable)
3 - Falb fee (feather sexable)
4 - Pansy fee, I think (not feather sexable)
5 - Pharaoh, Falb fee, and Egyptian (feather sexable)
6 - Pharaoh (feather sexable)
7 - Pharaoh (feather sexable)

You are correct about them being the same bird. Any idea on color?
I'm only really familiar with the Pharoah/Wild color and I think the three darker brown birds are Pharoah including the male in picture 336. The lighter brown bird was identified by @Nabiki as Egyptian, but I can't figure out which pictures are of that bird in your second post. I'll have to defer to the others on the light colored birds.

These two are males. All the rest are females, from what i see in the pictures. coturnixes male have a ginger brown chest, while females have whitish gray chests.
Males will also, (more commonly) have gray beaks, while females have pronounced pink noses and white/gray beaks.

Another great sign is egg layers, and crowing
Egg layers are females,
and crowers are males.
