Pics and Stories of your Silkies

While my Silky pullets were all broody, a friend bought me a Roo. She was TOLD he was a 1yr old Blue Silky. NOT. He is a Partridge roo of indeterminate age. I'd guess 3+yrs as his spurs are over 3/4" long! I have my doubts as to whether or not he's full blooded as he has a funky comb. AND he's old enough that his tail is all beaten up and nearly non existant. BUT- Bitty liked him from the git go. Bitty laid a few eggs then began helping her daughters raise the standard chicks, so she quit brooding before the eggs were ready. A different friend incubated the eggs for me and below are the 2 surviving chicks & the Rooster (named him "Chauncy"). He is a wonderful Daddy!

This is Chauncy.

Below is Ping, from Chauncy over Bitty. I'm guessing he's going to look alot like his Daddy. I named the chick "Ping" because my DH said it looks like a ping pong ball on tooth pick legs. A Silver chick hatched a few days later but didn't make it.

5 days after Ping hatched, we hatched a silvery grey chick. In keeping w/the Oriental name, I named the last chick "Ming"

Ming also has a black face & a white patch under it's chin.

I really hope this thread keeps going. I've enjoyed all the different pictures.

Next month I'm picking up from a hatchery 5 Silkies: 2 Blue, 2 Splash & 1 Buff.

Will post pictures later.

Aww, thanks for brig his thread back!

It's day 21 here and I'm hoping to start seeing some pips!! My Lily was determined to hatch something so I bought her fertile eggs for Mother's Day.lol

LOVE this thread!! Well I don't have much for stories seeing how I just got my critters, but I love them! Haven't had chickens in YEARS and I'm happy and super excited to be starting back up again. I've currently got 4 feathery friends, 1 cinnamon queen girl, 1 ameraucana girl, 1 blue laced red wyandotte boy, and one blue silkie girl! A good friend of mine gave them to me, and I LOVE my little silkie girl! She loves cuddling with me.

I would LOVE some help naming her.

Penny (30 weeks, roughly) and Lola - Penny took on Lola at five weeks when we needed a hen to care for her for company as Lola was too small to be integrated into the bigger flock. They were let out of their smaller coop today, while the other girls were locked up, and were allowed to roam (and sunbathe as it was a lovely sunny winter day with not a cloud in sight).

Sorry to say Ming didn't survive. Ping is now 9 week old and FINALLY has some size. I suspect Ping is a girl as my Silky roo takes such good care of him/her. All 3 of my Silkies/Showgirl are broody. My white Showgirl-10mo old, went broody first. Couple days later my Black Silky-1yr. I collected 9 silky eggs of theirs and the mother. After the first two spent 2 weeks sitting, then the Momma White Silky-2yrs old, also became broody. So, when they are not stealing eggs from each other, they have 3 eggs each. Only 1 of my hatchery Silkies survived. (Had a snake problem). Have ordered 5 more. Will get them in 1.5 weeks. Should be able to fit them in with the broodies.

These are the first 2 from the 9 Silky eggs. One is domed, the other not. Other than that, they are almost exactly alike. 2 of the Momma's had gone down below to eat/drink so I took the opportunity to take a picture while the 3rd Silky was pulling all the eggs under her.
