Pics of "Before/After" Dual Purpose meat birds?

Man, if you weren't completely across the country from me, I'd totally be fighting your dogs for them

I love those drummies! Especially for those Wade lines!

That's the best part about home grown chicken - and older chicken. So much more activity means more muscle use, which means darker meat. I MUCH prefer good dark meat, and not much can beat a good drumstick from a home grown older roo!

I love the banties! I would have never dreamed they would look that ... meaty, even though they're small!

We have this saying in rabbits "All rabbits are made of meat," suggesting that even the small breeds can be eaten. Guess "all chickens are made of meat" works too!

Are there certain breeds of Banty that have better utility qualities than others? Thinking miniature dual purpose, rose/small comb, winter hardy. It's worth looking into since I'm on a city lot for the time being...

That's 7 or 8 banties (silkies and silkies mixed with some other banties). It's a standard Pyrex #326, so 12" diameter, 4qt capacity.

I see some of those were silkies or silkie crosses!!!! Anyone got a picture of a whole silkie carcass?? Everyone keeps telling me you can't eat silkies because of their black skin??? But if i hatch silkies a some of them are Roo's I need to be able to do something with them!!

Sorry, no pics, but yes you can eat them. Taste just like chicken. I've never bothered with plucking, just skinned. Put them in something like a darker soup or casserole and no one seems to notice if you think the color will be an issue.

You can tell the full silkies by the dark black legs in there, the crosses didn't have as much black on the tissue. The top one is a full silkie, the bigger one in the "front" is a part silkie. The skin is black, but I just skinned them out, didn't want to spend the trouble of plucking something I wouldn't roast.

They made a FANTASTIC broth/stock, and I shredded all of the meat for future use.
