I'm assuming bantam Cochin? How old were they? I'm growing some out now to butcher
Around 4-5 months old. Pretty young, but just right for tender meat. Honestly I wouldn't recommend bantam Cochins for meat. Maybe some really good show ones (I mean an APA show, not a Fair) but otherwise what you see is what you get.
Ive only processed one young roo at about 5 months old last year, he was huge a light brahma. after processing him couldn't get the kids to eat him so he went to the freezer for a couple of weeks I finially decided to make some chicken and Noodles and snuck him out and stewed him up and do you know the boys said that was the best tasting chicken and noodles they ever had!! Go figure! When I finially fessed up and told them, the look on there face was too funny, but they still said it was the best ever. Home grown is soooo much better than store bought! Yum Yum!!
