Pics of "Before/After" Dual Purpose meat birds?

If you do decide on cornish x birds, I don't think they do very good in high heat once they are heavier. From what I've read they will start dying off.

Yeah and I've also read they are too retarded to move to shade even if it's provided. LOL

not sure if it's true or not but I found it interesting.

It gets well over 100 here in the summer time--usually a week or more of 100+ degrees. We had one day last summer of 108 and we're at 2500' elevation.

I really didn't think I could do it but the other day my son shot a 23lb wild turkey. I have a rule a far as hunting.. if you hunt #1 it goes down in one shot... <check> number two.. the meat is processes and consumed.
well the guy wasn't open on sunday am.. when my son cam walking up with this Hugh bird swinging behind him. so I had to step up and take charge. Im not sure what its called. processed. or dressed out? well I happen to have an old copy of Storeys chicken book than k goodness. and I hung the big guy up from his legs in the tree and my mom read the how to... from the book and I was amazed, first that I could do it but also that it wasn't the ordeal I had feared it would be. I did find that I had to pluck fast cause when he was still a hot bird the feathers all came off easy but as he cooled.. I actually ripped the skin in a couple of places. now I know this was a gamebird and I dont know if it will be different with my back yard chickens we now are raising. but did I do some thing wrong that the skin ripped. ( on the breast meat). Oh and the big guy ended up 21 lbs cleaned . pretty good for 13 yr old, back yard hunting boy..
thanks

ps I also have to give myself props that when I cut the tail off and dried it to fan and mounted it.. my mount turned out better than the taxidermist that we paid $150. last year for a mount.. sorry but I am kind of proud of this .. never thought I could do it. but im finding out Momma can do all kinds of things I didn't think I could.

We just got our first dozen Cornish X's at TSC. They grow like crazy! Then I got a call from the store manager that a lady who bought chicks there 4 weeks ago ended up with a Cornish, and needed to re-home it. They didn't want to butcher it so we took it. The thing is HUGE at 4 weeks. Hubby calls it our free dinner.

Okay, so you can't see the green too well here. The middle-left one is a poor quality Silkie. The middle-right one is a Silkie cross w/eggs still inside. The Silkie cross is the green tinted one. She's only tinted green, but her fat and organs were truly GREEN. I'm sorry, I never got photos of those, because, well, my hands were rather dirty at the time.

The others on the edges are Cochins.

SO sorry for such looong wait. Notice how skinny these birds are compared to my own Marans meat-boys.

Next time I find another Silkie-cross I'll get better photos, and photos of the fat and organs.

Oh btw - Some Silkie organs are black. I mean pitch-black. Fascinating, really.
