I really didn't think I could do it but the other day my son shot a 23lb wild turkey. I have a rule a far as hunting.. if you hunt #1 it goes down in one shot... <check> number two.. the meat is processes and consumed.
well the guy wasn't open on sunday am.. when my son cam walking up with this Hugh bird swinging behind him. so I had to step up and take charge. Im not sure what its called. processed. or dressed out? well I happen to have an old copy of Storeys chicken book than k goodness. and I hung the big guy up from his legs in the tree and my mom read the how to... from the book and I was amazed, first that I could do it but also that it wasn't the ordeal I had feared it would be. I did find that I had to pluck fast cause when he was still a hot bird the feathers all came off easy but as he cooled.. I actually ripped the skin in a couple of places. now I know this was a gamebird and I dont know if it will be different with my back yard chickens we now are raising. but did I do some thing wrong that the skin ripped. ( on the breast meat). Oh and the big guy ended up 21 lbs cleaned . pretty good for 13 yr old, back yard hunting boy..
thanks

ps I also have to give myself props that when I cut the tail off and dried it to fan and mounted it.. my mount turned out better than the taxidermist that we paid $150. last year for a mount.. sorry but I am kind of proud of this .. never thought I could do it. but im finding out Momma can do all kinds of things I didn't think I could.
