I got a lot of time and a few hundred dollars invested in this 'chicken thing' so I am pretty excited about this first egg and thought I would share it... (LOL!)
I believe this is the hen that did it:
Here is the egg I found at dinnertime feeding tonight:
This egg seems to have a fairly strong shell and is a cool color (I think the speckles are cool!). I was surprised it was this big and expected the first few eggs to be a LOT smaller...
I have been feeding these hens the Manna Pro Omega Egg Maker as a suppliment to their Dumore layer crumble for the last few weeks now. They also get the occasional Manna Pro harvest delight treats. They LOVE the treats... That bag has a mix of different seeds and stuff. (grains, sunflower seeds, peanuts, carrots, rasins, flaxseeds, tomato, ect...) Once in a while they get a handfull of mealworms as well. They FREAK OUT when they see the treats coming their way...
I only have 6 hens and I am just now starting out learning about chickens. I raised these from chicks and so far they seem to doing well. I have 3 that are fair size and the faces look just like the hen in the picture. The other 3 are a slight bit smaller and seem slightly less developed by looking at their faces. (if that makes any sence at all) I separated the 3 smaller birds off together and have been giving them extra attention so they can catch up...
These are Red Pullets from the local TSC if anyone was wondering. Seem to be good birds so far and fairly easy to care for. I think it was a good choice for me since I was just starting out with chickens and did not know anything / still have lots to learn.
This is a picture from when they were still just little chicks (few days old):
Hope someone got a smile here... I did when I saw our first egg! LOL!
