Well here's a question...six more red goldens hatched today and one is buff colored...completely different from the others which are stripey yellow and dark brown? All twelve previous chicks from my trio were the same color!!!!

Great pics! Here are Twitter and Tweet, my newly hatched Red Goldens ever! They are so energetic! This is from my first hatch. I'm so excited with these little ones! I have relied upon and am thankful for all the posters on BYC for their shared insight. Hopefully this works for me to post pics. Thanks everyone!

It's so funny...my husband was not pleased when I said I wanted some chickens, but I convinced him it would be a good thing. Then one day, out of the blue he said he'd like to raise some Golden Pheasants:confused: He got to looking at birds online and thought they were beautiful! I said let me get through our first batch of chickens and see if I can raise them without killing them...then we'll check out the pheasants! I know nothing about them...what do you do with them? Are they just for show, or are they hardy enough for free ranging? Do you eat the eggs? Personally, I am hoping he gets over this or forgets about it before my chickens are grown. At this time I do not plan on hatching my own eggs or anything, just raise what I have and eat their eggs. They are my "green" bug control method. They are cute, though!

Well, 'old chicken lady', I started in pheasants this winter and now have three pens of adult birds, 17 chicks and more in the incubator., Basically you just enjoy them for their beauty and their company and yes, you can eat the eggs!

How long do golden pheasant eggs take to hatch? I have one egg in the bator and we're in the middle of day 22 with no pip??
