I was inspecting the 2 Rhodels this morning, and it looks like 1 of them may possibly have a Rosecomb.
They're such friendly chicks...very inquisitive. I agree that they (IF they're hens) should be very good layers. My Delaware and RC RIR hens did a great laying job this winter...both breeds were very consistent. They all started laying in November, and some days the RC RIRs are already laying an extra large egg.
KathyinMO: Thanks so much! I only had 4 standard eggs in the incubator for last week's hatch ...so I only had 3 Dels and 1 Delawelle to hatch. At least they look pure Del right now. They're solid yellow and their wing feathers are coming in white...so that's 2 good signs. I'm getting ready to set 1 more set of standard eggs, then I'll be collecting for YOU!
But I'll warn ya...these Rhodels are mucho funo!
Dread: Now there's an idea. Maybe when I get my egg orders filled, I'll start auctioning a variety pack of Delaware and Rhodel eggs.
The Rhodels will be 3 weeks old this Friday. They are really quite big for their age already. I just wanted to share some updated pics with their followers. Also, these 2 chicks have about 1 1/2" tail feathers already. Some folks say that pullets feather in faster than cockerels...and it's pretty much always been so with the chicks I've raised. IF that holds true for these chicks, then they're both pullets.
