Kuntrychick, Yes, the vee shaped front on nest boxes to discourage roosting was what I posted. Has worked flawlessly. No more poop in nest boxes. Here is picture again. Plan to do the same thing on the front of the nest boxes in our new Bantam coop. Will build them tomorrow before the Saints game. good luck with yours.

I thought of using metal but was concerned they cut their feet, so I went with the 1/4" luan instead.

Have you thought about how heavy the roof is going to be once you frame it, put down your sheeting and then add shinges or some other kind of roofing material to it? I read for a solid two months before I started building (and I'm not done!! ack!!) but a lot of people regretted making the door as the roof. So I made mine that will have two access doors from the front. They will swing down so that you don't have to hold them while working in the nest box area to collect or clean. Going to work on doors today. Sigh. Working by myself is going slooooooow.

To discourage roosting/sleeping in them make sure to have your roosts higher than your nest boxes. I've had no problems with poop in them.

This is the result of a mad-scramble to get boxes in fast, and cheap. We used twenty (I think!) gallon bins, with lids attatched. I jigsawed out the opening, and drilled a few holes in the back/bottom for drainage. Hippie-Dude mounted them to the wall, and gave them a good slant with some wood at the back. I just bolted the perch to the wall and floor.

The gals seem to like them. Very mod!
