5 gallon pails work good, cut the lids in 1/2 and snap the 1/2 lid on, lay it on it's side and there's a nesting box. Milk crates work too. I have a nesting box that is almost 6 ft long by 12 in deep, the top is a tappers from 15in down to 10 in. It is attached to the outside of the coop and the top opens for outside egg fetching. If it has an opening and straw or shavings in it they will lay eggs in it.
