Pics of the roosts in your coop?

I just clean it off once a week.

We just went and cut some about 4" diameter trees off our property. We have a TON that need to be thinned anyway.
The chickens LOVE them

Our poop board is simply leftover T1-11 siding with the primed side towards the chickens, braced with a couple of 2x4s...totally removable.

Just built a new coop. Here are our roosts. I have coregated plastic lining the floor so it can be washed and I have bedding that can be scooped under it.

Its kinda hard to see but there are three stair step roosts..this way the younger ones can reach and roost. The entire thing is on hinges and I can raise it up and clip it to the ceiling to clean under it.
This photo was while we were building our coop.

Hey, I'm also trying to decide how to build my roosts. I'm also in a very cold weather winter area. I like this alot. Can you give me some more info on this? Do those roosts count as "flat" to protect their feet, even though (it doesn't look like) they are big enough to keep the feet totally flat? Also, how does the poop board work? Is it just a flat board underneath the roost that you put pine chips on and sweep off? If so, what keeps the chickens from just scratching it off themselves every day? Lastly, what size "flat roost" should I use?

Thanks a lot! I really like the look of this roost setup.

I just came to this just about to ask whether my roost bars needed to be round or flat. Glad I saw this. Which is better? 2x2 or 1x3? We have plenty of both. Now I have to decide which design we like. LOL

Thanks. DH just cut some 2x4's in half to make the roosts. The chickens are able to completely cover their feet enough when perching on these. The poop board was covered with some left over linoleum and the whole board can actually be removed if I need to. I do put the pine shavings on there and then just scrape it off once a week into a pail and then put in the compost. The chickens might kick some of it around when they are getting on or off the roost but generally don't stay on there. I save a lot in shavings by using this. I would think a 2x2 roost would be big enough.

Steve/Kris: If you're gonna use a 2x4, just make sure the flat 4" side is the side facing up so they roost on that flat surface.

That way they won't have to wrap their toes around the outside.

This is especially important if you live in colder regions; they can keep their toes warm if they're sitting on them.

It's kind of hard to see, but I just screwed up some branches I found on my property. I just put the chickens out in the coop this weekend and they seem to like them!
