pics of what I discovered when I opened my 25 day egg

My guess it drowned or died on no ealier than day 20.sorry but it happens. Butit sucks even more when they get out alive and then die of some kind of problem and you spend days nursing them back to health.

I agree with the others that have posted. It looks like it drowned. It looks like it had already absorbed the yolk so it just died trying to get out. I had some barred rocks that I got from a friend that I ended up having to help 3 out. They simply couldn't move inside the egg. They had already pipped though.

Sorry for your loss.

So should I have helped it out???? I was dying for that baby to pip on day 21!!!!
I'm so upset about this, I thought it was always bad to intervene.
I'm trying to learn from this so I can be better prepared next time!

If it hasn't pipped there really isn't much you can do. On day 24 I have tried to help unpipped eggs with no success. Once they have pipped you know where the head is and know where to go from there. I don't like to intervene either, but I have many times before when I felt I had no choice.

There really wasn't anything you or your hen could have done. The chick may have just been too weak to pip out. If that was the case it probably was to weak to survive outside the egg also.
