*Pics pg 13-Hatch complete-QUESTION*-Day 22-Is third time the charm?

Mine said 58% and then I added more water as the sock looked dryer than before. The moisture showed up and the hygrometer still reads 58%.

I got condensation when mine started to pip and hatch..... even though the humidty was never above 70% (It was 60-65% but bumped up when they started to hatch) at any given time. I think maybe it is that onslaught of extra moisture that does it.

But what about the hygrometer? Do I figure that when the moisture builds it's at about 70%-as was happening when I was setting up- and go from there or do I open the hatcher and replace the hygrometer?

My gut instinct would say that as long as there is condensation it is plenty humid - but is there a point where it can get too humid? Then you would want an exact reading.

If you have condensation... opening the lid to replace the hydrometer is probably NOT going to hurt anything. But, that is just my opinion.

I know you can drown chicks if it is to humid but I'm not sure at this stage if that would be a concern.

I think I will replace it unless someone can tell me why I shouldn't. I have another one so I can just pull one out and put in the other one.

If you have another one, then I think you should definitely replace it right away. Something doesn't sound right with that humidity reading for sure. Switch it out Kitty.

Right - because their air cell won't grow large enough - I just didn't know if there was something bad that could happen if the humidity was to high when they are actually hatching (besides they won't fluff very fast)

Sounds like you have a plan!

Good Luck with your hatch!

I know I am getting anxious about mine - I so want much for one of each breed to hatch - I am so scared nothing will hatch though after they cooled down the other day.

I just walked into the sparebedroom where they are and I thought I heard peeping! It was just as I walked in and then all was quite.
