(Picture Inside) One hen laid three eggs, one with blood on outside. All in same day?

Hi y'all!

I tried searching the forums for an answer but had trouble finding anything that fit this scenario.

Today we found three eggs in a corner of the chicken coop, all of the same type, and one of them with blood on the outside. The three eggs seem to be from the same chicken. They were in the same place and look very similar. They all look healthy with a hard shell.




Here's why I think they're from the same chicken. I have:

15 RIR (or Production Red) pullets and 1 Golden Comet pullet, none of which have start laying.
3 EE pullets: one lays blue almost daily, one has laid two green eggs and we haven't seen any more from her, and supposedly one lays pink eggs.
1 Brahma hen (1 or 2 years) that I have not seen any eggs from since I got her, but that doesn't mean she isn't laying somewhere.
1 Welsummer (1 or 2 years) that I suspect I have gotten a few eggs from, in that same place in the coop.

The eggs I found were three spotted eggs, I suspect are from the Welsummer. Here's the issue… I check in that spot in the coop daily, and haven't seen any eggs there lately (in several weeks). Today my husband found three in that spot and said they were pretty noticeable and doubts we overlooked them, especially because it's only been a few days since we stirred the pine shavings.

Is it possible the same chicken laid all three today? We check for eggs every night when we do a head count and I did not see any last night.

All of my chickens are acting normal (definitely not acting egg-bound) and I don't see any blood on any of them.

Any other thoughts?

no it is not possible for a chicken to lay more than one egg per day...if they are all from today they are from three different chickens

Thank you for your response. I read on a website somewhere that it is possible but very rare.

So do any breeds that I have other than Welsummers lay speckled eggs? (I have Production Reds, EEs, a Brahma, and a Welsummer).

I am also wondering if there's any concern about that much blood.

its rare but possible for two eggs but i have never heard of three in one day i would not worry too much about the blood unless it keeps happening..

I got 2 eggs from my Sicilian Buttercup since midnight. Doesn't happen often.

I agree that the blood is not a big issue, unless it gets worse and/or continues. happens occasionally in new layers.

I may have missed this but is this one of your first eggs? Pullets can bleed a little when they first start laying, I believe.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I don't believe this is from one of the new layers. Because the eggs are speckled, I believe they came from my Welsummer who is 1 or 2 years old and was laying at her former owner's home.

Hi again, everyone!

Well, I'm utterly confused now. I think y'all may be right about those eggs being from multiple chickens. Today, just hours after my husband stirred the pine shavings, I found two more brown speckled eggs.

Does anyone know if Rhode Island Reds (Production Reds) can lay speckled eggs like in the picture above? I'm really hoping so, anyway, because that would likely mean they have started laying.

If your hen just started laying, then she probably will have eggs with blood on them. This is normal. I don't know what to say about the three eggs, though.

My older Golden Comet lays eggs that resemble those. Hers are very large with those speckles on the round end.
