PICTURE OF FOX

I've got a call into the local Trappers association...he said he could not trap it if there are pups and it sounds like if the fox took 4 hens in 1 afternoon that she may have pups. BUT he said if the fox appears sick he will come out and set a trap...

My neighbor is also a trapper and said he would also set some traps or dispatch it.

NO animal control officers here in NH...it seems as if the general concensous is that LIFE happens...you know the whole circle of life attitude...which is a lesson in itself.

Okay, so life happens. Circle of life as it is means we are the predators and the fox is the prey. Just don't want you to get in trouble for disposing of it. Those pups, if there are some, are eaten up with the mange, too and are better off not distributing it to others. How sad that circle of life is.

This is very sad. I love animals, and hate to see wild animals trapped and killed, but this fox is sick and suffering, and her kits will likely be in similar condition. I'm sorry, but killing this animal is the best thing to do all the way around. Good luck. I hope this goes smoothly.

Poor thing. It has mange pretty bad. By shooting it, you would be doing it and yourself a favor. He looks to be suffering, even in the picture. Besides, you don't need it teaching it's kits where to get dinner.

Well, we have a MALE fox (we've gotten enough pictures of him that we know him almost intimately) that lives around here, and one night I neglected to lock up my flock, and the fox got TWENTY-TWO of the chickens. 15 of them were gone altogether, and there were 7 more bodies strewn around the yard. He was back again that same night, looking for another free meal.

I'd add to the other opinions that this fox does not look good, even for summer coat. Here's our marauder:

Here he is in winter, with his full coat:

It's snout is really long isn't it...I thought the same...that it might be a younger coyote. I'm waiting on confirmation from the trapper on what it is. IT did have a VERY long tail...not as bushy as I remember a fox having. It's fur were brown tipped with black...similar to a grey fox.

I'll keep an eye and try to get more pictures.

It's hard to tell what it is with so little facial hair. The foxes around here are cat-sized. Coyotes are bigger. But the snout on yours does look more Coyote than fox. Would that make a difference as to how the trappers have to deal with it?

I think yes...a BIGGER TRAP definitely.

The state trapper I contacted said he used a combination of snare and havahart trap...and he stated he gets more with the snare. I know it is illegal in some states to use the snare, but not here.
