Picture of Handsome Jack

I just went out and took a pic of the two BRs side by side.

Jack is the one in the front (foreground), with his bigger size, spikey, dark red comb and wattles.

Note the smaller size, smaller, pinkish combs on Edith (in the back).

(and my sweet little silkie Nikki behind her!!)

Yes-I'm bummed that I have to let him go. But I think I may have found him a good home....

I am sorry too that you had to part with your handsome boy!! I do hope he will have a nice new home, that should help to deal with the loss.

DG, get an expert on the breed before you give that boy/girl away. I'm not an expert, but that chicken doesn't look particularly roo-ish to me.
Having more comb and wattles then the other one doesn't necessarily mean anything. My alpha roo matured much more quickly than Thor until the alpha roo was gone. One of my girls, Lilith, had more comb and wattles than either of my boys at 10 weeks old. She was at the bottom of a pile up, almost died and had red comb and wattles from there on out. Not trying to give you false hope, just saying.

I had a BR that kept me guessing for quite a while- it seemed to split the difference in all the sex cues, but she's a girl. She used to try to crow silently, but now there is a rooster in the hood, she doesn't. A BR rooster really should be much more pale.

I took the evry good advice from Gritsar and asked SpeckledHen. She seems to lean towards roo, but I'll try to get some better pics of his hackle feathers to know for sure.

As for the crowing, it is anything but silent! He is LOUD!!!!!!
