Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

Here's a pic of my buff Brahma rooster, I'm debating between the names Link or Sam.

I plan to breed him with my HUGE buff Brahma hen Boo!

Ooh, he's so cute! And big! Such a precious thing.
Might be a good idea to name him after a Goron, with that size.
HA!
Thank you, the original owners couldn't keep him.
I literally jumped up and down when my folks said I could take him in, he is such a sweet gentle boy, a little skittish, but he'll warm up eventually!

I've heard that Brahmas are gentle things. I'd love to get a couple, but things are way too busy here to deal with any more chicks.
He's so cute. Give him a cuddle for me, would you, please? 🤗

But of COURSE!

I'm keeping separate from my flock for a while so I don't risk passing anything onto my current flock.
So that makes for some good bonding time!

Any tips for getting him to warm up to me?
I may be the RoosterWhisperer, but even I need some tips!
I'd recommend being quiet around him and doing as little as possible to startle him.
Try getting him to eat treats and feed from your hands -- crouch/kneel down and extend your arms, and wait for a few minutes until he comes over or your arm gets tired. Gradually move your hand closer to your body over the course of a few repetitions, and even as he's eating -- when a chicken starts to eat, they tend to follow the food wherever it goes.
After a few repetitions of this, slowly move your free hand towards him as he eats, stopping if he flinches or moves away. Once he settles, going back to pecking at the treats, move your hand again.
Above all, be patient with him. I haven't taken in any adult roosters, but this was what I was doing with Lefty before he died -- he was a suspicious thing, and I sadly didn't get him to be very comfortable with me, but he was at least eating from my hand.
Good luck with your sweet Brahma!
