He was a Welsummer, I love the breed, plus you can sex day-old chicks by color/pattern.

I'm sorry you lost him, beautiful bird.
However if you are relying on the V or no V on the head to sex them, that doesn't work. And as proof, I got 2 sexed pullet Welsummer chicks from Meyer in 2017. One was named "V" the other "Not V" due to the presence and lack of that "sexing mark". Their final names became Veronica and Betty.

I had a welsummer hen. She was a skittish weirdo, and really hated me. She was one of my all-time favorites. XD

I have a couple, one is currently broody.
I plan to breed my EE/Red star mix with my current BB rooster.

Mary had a EE brother named Blossom, he was white.

Ezra is the red roo, next to him is our oldest hen Grannie!
