Picture thread of my hens!

Bless your heart for making the hens life so much better in the end. She knew she was loved and had great care. I'm sorry for your loss of her.

I loved the pecking order. The fight then laying side by side. That was cute. Daisey is beautiful but then there is Bella who is gorgeous.

Thank you so much for sharing the pics with us. I really appreciate them. Have a great day.
Thank you!, you too!

Gorgeous pics again and I agree with 3goodeggs. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Have a great day.

My friend got a phone call last night saying one of her chickens was on the road with 8 chicks. I've been up there a lot with her and neither of us noticed she was even broody! We thought she died in the dog attack they had a week or so ago but even then she hid it well for the rest of the time. Anyways by the time she got there the poor mother was getting mobbed by seagulls and 3 babies were taken. She did her best to fight them off but she's only a tiny bantam and seagulls are huge. She's now tucked up nice and safe with her 5 remaining babies

Obarma and Pl, the top hens! Lucky for Obarma she's best friends with Pl so the two of them live untouched in the pecking order!

I'm glad you all were able to save at least 5 of the chicks. They are so cute and what a brave mom they have.

Bella got left out of the nesting boxes. That's not fair poor Bella her mom and aunt took up all the room.

YESTERDAY:
Well it's been a very sad morning up at my hens. Rosie my ex batt hasn't been well for a while now. I always knew something wasn't right but she seemed happy enough and was laying etc. She was just going slowly down hill. At the start of the week I noticed she was looking a lot more poorly. So I picked her up and checked her over and there was nothing. The next day I picked her up again just to hi to her and I could feel a Tumor. I have been tore on what to do for a few days now as she seemed settled enough and I didn't feel like it was time. So for the past few days she was treat like a queen. She got scrambled eggs, mealworms, bread, strawberries, grapes, raw egg for her meals. Today she went very down hill and I knew it was time as one of the hens kept picking on her and when she fell over she didn't have the strength to get back up and I couldn't leave her knowing if she goes down outside that she will be stuck there all night. So I booked her into the vets and got her put to sleep. I really really didn't want to go but I couldn't let her go with people she sees as strangers so I just went by myself. R.I.P Rosie, nearly a year free!

So after my bad news yesterday, I have some good news!!! So Josie the Indian runner went missing like a month ago. It was a day after I found Jemima the head duck had been killed in another field. So I thought Josie had been killed too. I searched every day for two weeks straight and there was no sign of her. Then a few days ago I can across a very broody Josie playing in the mud, so I followed her and found she had been sitting on a nest of 13 eggs! I was like "oh great" and candled them. I could see that they were very full and alive so I couldn't bring myself to smash them. Well today, she has 3 babies (so far). The little yellow one was struggling to hatch before I went to work yesterday so I helped it a bit and just left it in hope it would manage. The second looks like their dad daffy already! Surprised they were fertile to be honest as Josie is a big Indian runner and daffy is just a little call duck, so will be interesting to see how they turn out!
