I love Bella's little chick too. Was it a singleton? So sweet tucked into her body like that.

My Black Australorp had a singleton, a girl, and she and her daughter are still best of friends five years later. I'm really enjoying the personality of your chickens which you capture so well. What do they think of you stalking around the farm with your camera?

Thanks! They are little characters but that's not always a good thing when your not in a good mood! They don't mind me following them. When I go up to them with my phone they just pose because they know I leave them alone once I've got a pic!

Bella and chick

Bella and her mother are like a family unit now. Well Bella's not liking it as much! Bella's mother looks after her own chicks and gives Bella's little baby treats and offers it protection. She also lets it go around with her at feeding time as Bella usually strays off and she is higher in the pecking Oder so it gets more food. Bella on the other hand is nice to her chicks but when her mothers chicks come near her she pecks them! Tonight when I went up Bella's mother came running out the woods with Bella's chick and one of her own. Bella was left behind with Her mothers other chick and Bella came running normally then when she saw the chick running after her she went mental and started screaming and started flapping when running!

My flock has been attacked by some dogs. All chicks managed to stay safe but Bella the mother got her side ripped open and the cockerel had his tail feathers ripped off and one girl was missing but I found her unharmed.
