Picture thread of my hens!

Well I thought I would treat myself, so today I went to pick up a pair of Indian Runners! They're called Jeremy and Josie. I forgot to get better pics before I let them out though. I love them already though! I forgot to clip their wings too so I hope they don't fly away! It was an hour drive to get to them, but it was quite a nice drive and the man was really nice too. He showed me around his farm and it was like heaven the amount of chickens, ducks, Guinea fowl, geese etc running around.

Well after introducing my new ducks to the other ducks today, I've realised they are much nicer than chickens. They went that bothered by each other and after like they had been there the whole time. Whereas when I introduce new hens, there's fights, blood, feathers everywhere and then months of bullying before it settles!

Well now this years coming to an end, it makes me think about the ones I lost this year, and its definitely been my worst year for losing them. In the first two pics, you can see 2 of the three ducklings that hatched under my two broody orps. The black one struggled to hatch and I had to help it hatch. It had some health problems which I got it through and then just as it got better, rats chewed threw the shed and took all 3 ducklings and 3 baby pheasents. There was then Penelope and another chick (two CLB chicks). I got them for my broody Light Sussex, Lacey and Coco orp. Lacey looked after Penelope great, she was really desperate to be a mam. Coco on the other hand killed her chick. Penelope then sadly drowned. And then there was Lacey herself. I just one day went to the hens and I was putting the food out, everyone was fine and then rather a hen tripped over a feeder she was eating from and broke her neck, or she tripped over one and broke her neck. Either way, it wasn't very nice to witness and was awful. There was then Lacey ducks two siblings which Bella squished! Then there was top hen Dolly, I believe she has a tumor which took over when she went into moult and she just went down quickly. And then the most recent, Osma. I had her since 2011 and I still can't figure out what caused her death, she just got really poorly and died half an hour before her vet appointment. I miss them all. R.I.P girls.
