I am SUPER interested in the beefalo experiment... that's what we want to do too!!! Is Bison sperm available for mixing with the cows or do you have to actually have a Bison bull?

How much do they usually go for?

How much do the whitetail sell for? If you buy from a herd that already has all the testing done, does it make it easier for you in your state?

Thanks!

We use live coverage, so I do not know about Artificial Insemination with Bison. At our exotic animal sale last Feb, young Bison bull calves were $500 to $750

Whitetail prices are very virable, depending on age, sex, genetic line; some will sell for cheap while adult bucks with large antlers sell for MANY thousands.

Each state will have requirements for deer coming into the state and deer already in the state. You would have to contact your state, either game fish parks or USDA, which ever agency controls deer farms in your state. For us we can not buy live deer from another farm unless they are tested & in the CWD program.

I'm really interested in deer care.
What hight fence do you need to keep them in?
what do you feed them? And how much do they eat? ( basically how much does it cost to feed them for a year?)
How do you bottle feed them? Is it like bottle feeding any other animal? ( calf, lamb, kid etc)
I know it depends on what state you live in ( or, in my case, province) but do you usaully need to may each year to have a permit for them?
How about breeding. Is it easy? What is involved?

Sorry about all the questions

Deer fencing is usually 8' tall.

We have a custom mix made, which we feed to several different types of animals, but is close to a 14% horse feed. Not sure how much it costs to feed them per head per year; we get a few tons at a time but I not sure I want to know how much per head it costs.

When bottle feeding deer, we limit how much they get at each feeding but feed them several times per day. But it is like bottle feeding any other animal, once they know what the bottle is they come running for it.

We have to renew the license each year.

We use live cover for breeding, AI is available if you have a good corral and chute system to handle them.

I've found out that for the province of Alberta ( where I live) you need to have a permit, and it cost $100 a year. And you need to have a 9' fence around 10 acres of land!

Our whole property is only 5 acres! Oh and I also found out that it costs $200-$250 per head a year. Thank you for all of your info! You really know ALOT about the animals that you raise, and I respect that
