Is anyone aware of pied china geese? Given how long these birds have been domesticated, it seems odd that there seem to be just brown chinas and white chinas. I bought buff African geese with the hope of eventually producing buff chinas. I produced a few offspring from that cross and will breed those next winter. (I really don't like the ponderous shape of the African geese).

Are the offspring of grey geese and china geese themselves fully fertile? If so it should be possible to cross chinas with something like buff Pomeranians and breed back to the china type.

. Yes you can cross those breeds and produce fertile offspring. If you want pied geese you can cross White and Brown Chinese. I currently have goslings from this cross and all have somewhat of a pied pattern.

Hi, Kevin:

Thanks for the info! Do you have any pics of those spotted birds of yours?

I don't right now but I'm actually heading out now and I'll try to get some pictures.

Pictures of the F1 crosses. I had one that had much more white through out it's body but that one died earlier on

. They actually have a lot more white on them than what's showing up in the pictures. Also the older they get the more white appears to be coming in on them.

Typical Dark backs:

They have lighter faces than my Brown Chinese and mixed colored beaks:

I think if you crossed a F1 cross back to a White Chinese you'd get much more white in their pattern.

I think i got one of these crosses from the hatchery! I have a brown Chinese that has a white chest and a spot under her chin. All my geese with the exception of an adult pair i purchased first are from this year i bought them from ideal this spring. I thought you could not cross white and brown? Either way i love her and she will stay with us.

Some Brown Chinese can get more white than the standard calls for especially hatchery birds. Most hatcheries do not run the two together to the best of my knowledge. I had no intention of crossing the two colors but Bruce had other plans

Thanks for the pics Kevin! Those mottled feet in the last image are particularly striking. Well, I will try the cross. I bought two white and two brown china goose females from Ideal this spring. I will pair them with the buff or brown ganders I have.

Now if I could breed geese that would eat poison ivy, I would be sitting pretty......

Well she has a lot of white like from mid chest down and a very distinct spot under her chin Also her eyes are super dark brown she looks very different from the others.
