Where did Pied come from? Is it a color mutation? It isn't considered sex linked like Cameo, Purple & Peach is it?

Correct. Pied is not sex linked, but a pattern mutation (much like white eyed and blackshoulder). They apparently date back to the early 1800's. I imagine that it was quite a while before it was bred as a variety. Most peafowl were kept free range in those days, and it was not uncommon to have Indian blue roaming around with white and blackshouldered birds. Since the pied bird needs to carry one white gene and one pied gene, it really is amazing that the right bird (that would have showed no signs it was different) was bred to a white bird most likely by happenstance.I know it is a mutation and no it is not sexed linked, i do not know when they were started as far as breeding for the pied variety.
