Pig Pricesand other pig questions

According to her......and I think I got this right.......they ARE 4 months old. They are also about 35 lb. and my dh will weigh them in the morning BUT......they are small.

I feel sorry for them. They were castrated today then got a bumpy ride here. They won't come near us.......freaked out.

The good side of this is that they had no cover there. Here I have 2/3 of the run covered and a small coop for them to go into for warmth. I put straw in there for comfort but last I checked they are laying under the coop. I also have straw under the coop.

This woman said when they were young the teeth were cut. Ever hear of this?

As I stated, this is my first experience with this and I have a feeling I got runts.

They are tan with black spots. Have NO IDEA what breed it is.

Should I be worming them? I think they had a bad life.

I am fully prepared to take them to butcher when the time comes but I want them to have a decent life until that time. That is the way I regarded my meat chickens last summer.

I really want to do this right and will take any advice I can get.

Thanks,

Mary

They should weigh a lot more than 35 lbs at 4 months, hopefully a language barrier problem? The teeth cut when they were young were the needle teeth, they are cut out shortly after birth to as not to hurt the sow when eating. IIRC at 4 months they should weigh around 175 lbs?

I specifically asked.........4 weeks? She said NO 4 months. I said they should weigh 150 lb. She said 'OH NO"

Should they still grow " Right " if I feed them well?

Sheesh!!!

i think tan with black spots is a wild boar....i could be wrong(probably am)..but i DID see a pic of a wild boar that was a reddish tan and had black spots...

Wow.......scared me!!! Just looked up a whole lot of pics of wild boar. They don't look like wild boars. Probably poorly fed little piggies.

I never kept the runts, I raised feeder pigs and sold them at around 40 pounds to a local farmer who finished them out, THe runts were sold to whoever wanted them, I know they will grow slow, dont know how long to reach butcher weight (250 pounds). I would de-worm them if they have not previously been and just monitor weight gain.

if they weigh less than 80# and are 4 months old, I'd have to wonder if they weren't pot bellied pigs...if so hope you like grease.

theyre probably crossed bred, they should grow for you,you want them for yourself and not to send to market so even if they finish a little smaller its not a big deal..are they maybe a potbelly cross?..crosses can come in any color or combination of colors and patterns,at least they took the teeth and castrated them, that is good, and if they were only on corn they should perk up on better grower feed..
