Hi all. Today I went out to the loft to let the birds out for some exersise. I noticed that my Serbian Highflyer Dale was standing on one leg. at first i didnt pay any mind, it wasnt unusual. Dale and his mate Lilly seemed to have no intrest in going out side, witch they are usualy eager to do. I picked Dale up and put in out in the open aviary, Lilly followed. when I put him down he stagered to the left, lossing his balance, trying to put his foot down for balance, but pulling it right back up quickly. I cought him and examined his foot and leg. some featheres around his leg were a bit orange-ish red with blood. on his hock joint or "knee" there was a rather large scab. the part of the leg that rests on the ground while laying down. I cleaned the dried dropings off of the place they sleep and the nest boxes, thinking maybe thats what caused the injury. hes eating and drinking fine. Ive heard that when a pigeon hurts its leg/foot, you should still let them out so they can fly and take the wait off their leg for a while. right now they are sitting on the deck rail. When he lands on things, he stands for a moment, then lays down, leaning away from his injured side. there dosent seem to be anything wrong with the other leg (the one with the band fyi). should i keep them in or let them out?is there anything i should put on it? should I bandage it or leave it open to the air?
