Today one of my pigeons is limping.

I think it's broke or sprained its toe and maybe hurt its hip.

I think it might have caught its foot in the wire mesh of the coop during the night.

I can't see any blood, only a red line on the top of its foot.

it stands OK on both legs / feet, but when it walks it will limp and sometimes hold the leg up.

I tried to put it in a cage on its own to rest.. but this makes it crazy to get back to the other birds and so I had to put it back in the coop.

If its broken a toe or sprained it's leg... what is the normal amount of time it takes to get better?

I feel sorry for it being in pain.

I just caught him up to take a closer look.

Good news is there does not seem to be any broken bones in the foot. I can move all his toes, foot, and leg / hip normally.

I noticed he his wounded on the outside of his wing (elbow?) and has blood there, but can still fly fine. His one foot has a red mark on the top and the ankles is bruised slightly and blue.

Now I guess something happened to him yesterday when he was free flying with the flock. Maybe something attacked him, or he crashed landed hard.

I just wish he would keep still. Despite his hurting leg / foot he is still flying about from perch to perch messing and arguing with the other birds!!!

I am thankful no broken bones through.

Very few... as the farmers shoot them!

Very rarely there will be some kind of buzzard flying in circles slowly (usually getting mobbed by the mynah birds). I suspect they might eat chickens but not hunt flying birds (as these buzzards seem very slow). One might have spooked my pigeon through and made it crash into something.

I had a pigeon suffer a terrible break in it leg above the knee.

"I do not know how long it suffered until I noticed it."

I put two splints made from shortened Q-Tips on the break and secured them with two zip ties. I had the bird in isolation for close to 2 weeks. I just put her back with the rest of the flock 2 or 3 days ago. The bird is just starting to put weight on it again.
I will take the splint off some time the end of June or in July.

It never aligned perfectly. I still think it has a good future ahead of it.

Its possible the pigeon hit a telephone wire. That happens often when racing pigeons.

I hope he gets better soon!

I think you might have something there. It's a young bird just started to fly up with the flock this week, and still inexperienced.

I wish I could have little cameras on them so I could see what stuff they are up to out of sight... they seem to be prone to having random accidents lol.

The injured wing is on the opposite side to injured leg / foot. So, from my deductions and detective work (homed from years of watched Sherlock Holmes lol), I think it got its leg or foot stuck in something, then injured the wing 'wrist' in its struggles flapping about to get free. From the mark on top of its food I think it was its foot got suck, not the leg. Lucky it got free and back to the coop.

He is getting some rest time today as he won't come back into the coop now and I thought that was better for him not to get squabbling and messing about with the other birds. He is happy to sit on our water tanks under the shade and is enjoying peanuts and a bowl of feed.. and a nice bath and sunbath.

He is not holding up the leg as much today and I think not limping so bad. When he perches his toes are rather stiff and not gripping properly, but I think that is because they are sore, no breaks at all.

Hope he will get better soon.
