There's a lot more to pigeons than most realize. You can show them, breed them, fly them, train them, and race them. My homing pigeons have homed from 80 miles away, but their blood has done 600-720 miles.

Thanks for the websites! Your birds sound amazing and I'm officially obsessed with pigeons now lol. I've seen pigeon coops on roofs in my neighborhood, but had no idea this cool training, racing and homing world existed. Plus they are seriously cute. Have you ever raised chickens? If so, are they harder or easier than pigeons?

I just got started in chickens this spring. Not to sound mean, but chickens are a lot more,,,, boring... There isn't the same things you can do with chickens like you can pigeons. I don't want to show chickens, so that leaves free ranging to about the height of a chickens life. but I do enjoy my chickens. I think I invest 3× the amount of time and work to my pigeons, but I have 65 pigeons and 4 chickens.

If I had ten chickens and ten pigeons, pigeons would take more time, just with feeding, cleaning, flying, etc.. But pigeons for me, are more enjoyable. Pigeons are more likely to get sick, but less diseases mean death to them like chickens.

So, long story short... I think pigeons are harder than chickens, there just isn't the amount of info out there on them like chickens. There's a big learning curve for them. But, they are so so worth it!!! I love them. I can help you get started if you ever need it. There's a big community out there that no ones knows about. Look for some clubs in your area, and they would help you get started. What breed\s would you want?
