Pigeon Talk

BP...poor bird. He is like a war pigeon! Let nothing deter him from his mission! Gosh I just love the pigeon war stories. They carried out an amazing mission! They need more credit. Some got recognized. Most not. Flying through a war zone I find incredible.
Dang Bio....you got me ranting about the war birds again! There are books out there I find fascinating reads.

Some got recognized.
Sadly, the ones that did were the ones that lived. Many were killed before they even got above the firing guns. That doesn't mean that they were bad homers (they were incredible homers, and could demolish all the birds in OLR today!) But just means that the people were a good shot. :( many more should have been recognized (not because they care, but because they served more in history more then we know) .

Quick question please guys
My pigeon are sitting on eggs and I do my research and it say they will be hatching around 18 days but now I can see a pip in my egg At day 15
Is it normal??
What breed are they? Often times, small breeds if pigeons hatch as early as day 14 (this is when all my Portuguese tumblers hatch) but there should be no concern if it hatches early, as long as the parents feed it.

The same pigeon that you said was a red bar with white flights
Okay. I remember the bird, but can't remember the breed. Is it a cross?

And just for your info, it was a red check. There is technically no such color as red bar, because red bar and silver are the same color, and silver is the dilute of blue. So a blue bar isn't talking about the bars, it is talking about a blue bird with bars (that are black). So, a silver bird is actually a dilute blue with bars, (the bars are red) but this doesn't make it a red bar. As when we see a blue bar, we don't say it's a black bar, even though it has black bars. I hope this helps! (This was you're science lesson for the day ;) )

Alright. Do any of y'all know know how to breed red ash spread birds?

here's my thinking... Get a red ash hen (like the one I caught) and breed it to a black check make, as all black birds have the spread modifier. Would there be a chance in getting red ash spread birds from this? Because the red ash hen has the base color, and the male the spread factor to spread the red ash. Obviously not all the offspring will be red ash spreads. So is this the best way to get it?

my red ash hen: sadly, it's a roller hen. The first bird I ever bought. That's why I still have her.
