Mama and 2 batch of her babies
Though they all look like dad

Hawk pressure is pretty bad right now, but the flock doesn’t seem to mind staying on the ground and looking for sunflower seeds. My prisoner hen (the mate to the grey one and mother to the other two) got out the other day but I was able to get her back in before she started flying. I trust her not to go AWOL on me but but it’s still nerve racking - last thing I need is a hawk to chase her out of range. I’m going to work on properly settling and training her to come in and out when it gets warm.

Oh wow! they blend in!

Hello pigeoneers! I hope everyone is doing well, as well as their pigeons.

Although this won't directly affect our sport for a few years, it will affect it sooner if we aren't careful. Animal rights organizations and activist have been desperately trying to put new laws in place for the raising, breeding, showing, racing and selling of poultry, pigeons being no exception. Are pigeons actually poultry, though? Well, this past May animal right groups sued the USDA forcing them to put in place laws "protecting" birds. USDA now has two and a half years to put in place regulations for birds as livestock and poultry, including showing. Will pigeons be considered poultry? We don't know, so we have to be careful. Put pigeons in a good light. If you don't think shows are humane, go to a show. You will see for yourself, they are humane. Stay informed about this. If you need to talk, talk kindly and honestly. thank you for reading! Stand up for showing and racing rights!

I have to downsize, my dad's passed now and I don't think I can afford to keep feeding the 19 I have. I'm not sure who in keeping or selling yet but I know I know it's my responsibility to downsize now, for the sake of my mom and for the health and life of my birds, I want the ones I have to get rid of to go to a good home. That makes me anxious about Craigslist. I've got a nice little collection and it breaks my heart to sell them ;__; I miss back when there was selling on facebook, it just felt a little more personal I guess? I don't know if that makes sense ^^"

I think I know how you feel. Some of my birds will probably survive me and I need to make plans for them. :hugs

I am so sorry to hear that. I don't think I would worry about Craigslist. Lots of good fanciers there. How many and what breed are you getting rid of?

I'm not exactly sure yet. I think first to go is gonna be my homers, they came from a nice breeder but they were bred for racing, not showing (which is what I did pre-covid) but I kept them since they're such cool birds (I don't fly my birds because if the heavy hawk and bald eagle presence nearby) but they're big and eat a lot. They make good broodies but I don't need that right now. In total I've got Portuguese Tumblers, a pair of oriental rollers, I've got some Birmingham rollers, a pair of damascenes, a muffed chinese owl and 4 doves (with at least one male and one female in the mix although individual genders I'm unsure xD)

I think I'm gonna try to keep a pair of doves (if I can find someone to take an unsexed pair....) a pair of rollers, the portuguese and I want to keep the damascenes cause I adore the ice genetics and I'd love to get it in my rollers but I don't know if I'll be able to do that with life kinda being upside down now.
