Pigeon Talk

Finally talked to my pigeon guy and took a trip out to his place, what a setup. Wish he wasn’t so far away but glad iv got the connection now. Waiting on this round of babies that will be going to me and there should be two grizzles, 2 silvers, 2 checks or blue bars, 2 Dunn’s, 2 chocolates and a few from a couple of pairs that are supposed to have big $ parents but who knows. I’m just excited to get some birds in the loft!!

WOW! That sounds like a spectacular group of colors and patterns!! You might be interested in the basics of pigeon genetics related to color and pattern.

Edit added: Did you ask him if he vaccinates his birds? PS- I love grizzles, se avatar. Haha

Thankyou for the link as I most definitely will be! I’d love to eventually get some barless as well! He has some beautiful grizzles and splash’s that I’m excited about, and I love your avatar, so beautiful! I did ask, and he doesn’t do it anymore. He said he used to and it was a headache for him so he only treats the 4-1 mixes now as well as worming.

Having trouble posting this for some reason... Hopefully it works this time. The pictures suck (was very bright out and couldn't see what I was doing on the phone camera) but here's a recessive yellow and red mottle from last years hatch. Didn't get banded, but it's fine as I don't plan on selling them. My mottles don't usually come out with so much white, and I expect these to get even more white with the next molt. thanks for letting us know. Is it helpful to answer questions from over a year ago? I'm some cases, I saw the OP hasn't been on in many months. Is it still good to reply, at least for someone researching that specific question?

you are gonna get some beautiful birds! I love my silver. They get prettier with each molt. Does this gentleman race? It's unusual to have such variety of colors from racing stock, but, that's not to say they don't win races too! What color of grizzles?

He does race but I was very impressed with the amount of color he had also. He said his friends only breed blue car and blue check because he said they last longer but I’m excited to get the colors!

a local fancier who races, "took me under his wing" and has helped me so faithfully for nearly 2 1\2 years. He would give me his birds who he didn't get a chance to band or were white. :D he didn't like them because they get hit by hawks more... Hasn't been my case so far. But because of that, I have ended up with a flock of pretty birds. All for free! His generosity is evident thru his endless supply of birds for me. :) I can't talk to him without leaving with a box of birds!

Just to show them off. ;)

To my eye they are beautiful, nice shape and stance too. Are you breeding for more white, less white, different color distribution? I don't know about mottles

Absolutely beautiful birds! I love the splash’s and reds! The one thing that I have learned about pigeon people so far is that they always want to help out someone getting into the sport/hobby. It has really made the whole experience of trying to get things figure out that much easier and that much more fun!
