Pigeon Talk

There was an instance in China when the fancirs took their birds on a new something train.(cant remember the type of train) but they then won the race by shattering records but then it was figured out. They got in troble.
This was back in the era when a rubber band was applied to the bird at the club prior to the race. Then the birds remained under lock and key until taken to the release point and released. When birds trapped in bands were removed, placed in the clock, and somehow the time was recorded. He removed the band and followed the clocking behavior. I am out of the loop, but think that today there are chips and readers with results going directly to the club secretary.

You had to know Jim. He was old school, old school foxhound man. His feelings towards the value of any animal was directly proportional to how well it did competitively.

Get a couple of false eggs, wooden or plastic and do a switcheroo! Leave them to sit on them and let them be. They will stay on them for the normal length of time it takes to hatch but it should stop them laying anymore. If you want baby doves leave them on real eggs when it gets warmer.

Ok I like the doves but just don't want to risk hatching mostly featherless babies in winter.
Easy solution for those that do not have plastic eggs handy. Until you can get some,,,,,,, you can take those laid and Hard Boil them so they will not hatch,,,, and also not easily break or spoil quickly. This way hen will not keep laying eggs every time they are removed....

I like the idea of a walk in, if we use the camper I'll have pleanty of room. But if I decide to use the aviary I wont be able to do a walk in. The aviary will allow them to have more outside spase to stretch their wings and sun,
And I really like the idea of that.. I think it would be better for them.
Decisions, decisions...:th

She's sooo cute! :love:love:love:love:love

@Fields Mountain Farm could the aviary and the camper be used together? (are you meaning the hoop thing you made with the trampoline?) If it could be butted up to one end of the camper, you could make a window for them to be inside or outside. :idunno
That was my thought all along. Have both large loft and large aviary.:thumbsup
Yes.. that's the one.
Possibly. But it may need more work to do that than to just build a loft inside..idk.. Have to see what dh thinks..
Small loft inside large AVIARY = small amount of pigeons.:hit

I heard about that,,,,,,,, it was calculated, that pigeon flew at close to 200 MPH.

I was out watching the pres of our race club (which im not a part of) bring in his race birds. One came down but wouldnt trap then he GRABBED it and i was like what? Hes cheating but it turns out it was someones elses bird that came down with the others. He put it in a box to give back.

OK , but at least it's a small amount of HAPPY pigeons. My larger aviary is the best thing I've done for them.
Of course if FMF can swing it, large and large is best!:thumbsup

How did his birds do?:)And why aren't you at least a social member? My club allows non-racers to join for a small fee, I think it was $15 so they can get bands.

Small would force me to practice strict "birth control " with them as well..:lau
Alright i got a qeustion. Sooo my port laid an egg! But its gonna be freezing and i dont have electricity out there. Ports arent tight sitters on squabs due to them being originated in portugal. So is there any way other than hand raising inside that i could raise them up. I want these to make it bad since i could show them. Thanks!
