No, but if you ever do race, that would be a good idea, so that the birds learn to pull away from the group.

So Loper's babies are six weeks old and have survived integration into the flock. They have names - #1741 is Porumbel and #1742 is Tauben*. I was so overprotective with them, made them stay in the cage til they were 5 weeks and could no longer be contained. lol Tauben was the bravest. He would jump out when I opened the cage door so dad could go feed them. As soon as he hit the floor one of the cockbirds would come after him. Tauben would turn around and hop back in the cage. Tauben still would come out again and get chased back in. He kept doing that and each time he was able to get away from the bullies for longer periods. I would only let him try while I was there to guard him. Finally when they were 5 weeks I let them free in the loft. Here are some pics from that day.

This was the first time flying for real.

I really love the look of these two, they strongly resemble mom. Their wings are extra long. One more of Tauben with a fliter that I think is neat.

*edit - the names are foreign words for pigeon.

I did thank you..
It was nice and calm.. ds2 stopped by and brought grand num 3..
Ds1 also came by with a new wok for me..
Dd 1&2 called but weren't able to come up.. had a nice chat tho..
The 2 youngest are still at home, they gave hugs and sat around chatting a bit more than usuall.
All in all a good day!

I do too. Their mom is petite but very muscular, quick and agile. They look very much like her, except the legs are clean below the hock. It won't be much longer before they follow the flyers out.

If you look at the thumbnail 084 you can see the proportion of backwing to forewing that I think looks so good. Tauben is a shade darker and on the right.

I noticed Bonnie hasn’t laid her second egg. It’s been 4 days since I saw the first egg.
Maybe I should take that one if she doesn’t lay another one today? Or maybe she just wants one?

I'd probably leave it. If you take it and she lays another and then return it she could lay another and end up with three. If that makes sense! The babies look great and Dazzle looks to be doing really good. Are the rest leaving him/her alone?

Looking good! I would just leave the egg, one of my rollers pairs seems to only like raising one squab at a time.

I suggest to leave it also. Agree with the others here.
Do have a possible suggestion for the future if the egg laying gets staggered.
When you see first egg,,,,,,, replace with plastic. Keep egg on your counter in home. Egg does not start to develop at room temp.
When second egg is laid, replace plastic with real.
Both pigeons hatch at same time.
Here is my logic behind this from previous experience.
A staggered lay, brought about a staggered hatching. One pigeon was already soo much bigger when second hatched. Biggggggs took all the nourishment, and there was little left for the second one. He grew really slow with the limited nutrition that he received. Lil guy didn't make it. . I think it all is part of nature to have parent nourish the one that looks healthiest.(most likely to survive) When we raise pigeons in captivity, we try to circumvent nature to a degree.
