My 5 week old Pekin (breed I assume) is very pigeon toed. Feet turned inwards and seems bow legged to. I'm new to ducks but it doesn't seem normal to me. My other 5 (various breeds) are not pigeon toed. Is this a pekin thing or a development problem?

My female Pekin is also pigeon toed. I got her when she was 3.5 months old. I thought she’d come to us with a niacin deficiency but all the nutritional supplements haven’t helped to correct the issue. I may have gotten her too late to fix the problem. She does fine - just had to remove obstacles so she doesn’t trip and hurt her feet (which has happened) and make sure she doesn’t become overweight (which would just cause more problems). I will say that she is stronger now so she can run and play just fine with the other ducks. Hopefully someone will reply with helpful info to correct the problem while your baby is still young. I’ll be watching too!!

It's usually a niacin deficiency here is so very good info on it. Since your duckling is already having issues I would suggest a Liquid B Complex vitamin we have seen great results with then this year may be too late to completely fix the little ones legs since it's 5 weeks old but it sure can help strengthen them. You can get it from TSC in cattle dept it will say injectable but we give it orally 1 ml daily or go to Walmart and buy human Liquid B Complex it isn't as concentrated so it's 3 ml daily. Get one of the small syringes with out needle you can give it over a treat like meal worms or thawed peas. So you know the duckling is getting full dose.

We just don't know why some ducklings even when on Nutritional yeast or other niacin can still have leg issues But it seems Pekins are the worst with them maybe because they were developed to grow so darn fast but we see more Pekins than other breeds have this. I'd at least give the Liquid B Complex a try for a week or more and see if you notice any change.

Thank you, I just picked some up from TSC
