Pigmy Rattlesnakes in my garage.

Hi All,
Went out at 9:00 am last night to close up the chicken house.
Came back to the house, entered by the side garage door. Just inside the door was a pigmy rattler coiled up and ready to strike,
I had just stepped over him. DH killed him and we went and watched TV for an hour. I went back outside by the same door, but checked just outside the door, and there was another one. OMG, I think there is a nest of them in the woods out behind the house. We have some brush piles out there. We are afraid to burn them, afraid we'll just stir the snakes up. I got some snake away stuff at the feed store today, some say it doesn't work, but I squirted it around the door, etc. Sure hope it does. Anyway, everyone keep your eyes open for the things. If they bite a person it can do major damage. Anybody with some sure fire poisonous snake removal ideas, please post.

Donnabelle, when I say this, I'm not trying to sound like a smart aleck...but I'd burn the brushpiles, in the daylight, and stand by with a shotgun. I put my mindset into your place...this is how I would think.."let's see I put the poison out.....and havent seen a snake for a while....did the poison work or.............."


Gosh I would hate the thought of those things!!!

Hummm.... You know what, I think you have a valid point, however I think I will let DH stand by with the shotgun, in his gum boots and do the shooting. Shotguns kick, and I'm not such a good shot either, unless it's with a sawed off.
The bad thing is, and I hate to admit it, but I wouldn't let him burn the brush piles last winter, because I thought it was good habitat for rabbits and birds, just didn't think about the snakes. Oops. Once again, I should have listed to my DH.

I agree, burn that pile and have a gun. My DH would love to do that, he loves any excuse to target practice

You definately want to make sure the snakes are gone. Also I would try to do it soon before they venture into your home. I'm never heard of a pigmy snake, but a poisenous snake is a poisenous snake. I hate the fact that they have to be killed but you can't risk your family and pets.
