Pigs....What did I just do? *GRAPHIC PIC*

A vet can't tell what might be in the animal's system. Like mentioned various medications could still be there with no signs. Parasites also aren't visible from the outside without taking the time for a fecal. Some are a real concern in hogs. Not all animals will end up looking very malnourished from parasites and it's hard to tell a poorly fed animal from an infected one. I wouldn't take one vet checkup as safe. I'd need a good week or 3 of observing the animals, feeding them well, and possibly doing a fecal but I'd probably just go ahead and deworm them and wait the required period rather than calling out the vet and paying for a fecal.

As my Momma always says "Shoulda, coulda, woulda" its to late now for advice on THIS pig/hog.

But I would maybe do what they are saying for the rest of them! Heck, you'll get more bacon, and ham if they are grown out a lil while longer! Just think of the Easter eats you will have if you wait until then! lol mmm Mmmm mmmm

Yes thats what Im going to do with the rest. The only reason I did this one so quickly is because, everyone, including the vet, told me that I should do it right away because with it being that size and him being that young, theres no telling how soon it might kill him. Which to me doesnt make much sense, but I took the vets advice. Is it ok to worm the one that I may eat in a month? I was thinking of using Wazine because I have some left over from the chickens.

Oh and last thing. Can I Sevin dust my piggies, I didnt notice anything funky on them, but I would just feel better if I did.

Ivermectin?? HOw long does that stay in the system? That kills almost everything.. inside worms and outside creepies...

I have to agree that that is the cheapest price per lb on a ham you will ever find!!!! makes me want to venture to the auction house. my parents used something from the feed store on the pigs for buggies it was a powder it was so long ago that i have no clue what it was. Pigs are nice and easy to raise. Great fun to watch and in the grand scheme of things i thought they were tidy using only one section of the pen for going potty. Have fun with your other two and just think how great Christmas is going to be and the bragging rights to the cheapest ham ever!

Sevin dust on the pigs should be just fine. Just make sure to do it in an open area and just rub it on their backs. With Sevin dust, a little bit goes a long way!
