None of this is even the point ..
What the problem WAS... was that the OP didnt warn anyone about the nasty picture that she had posted on this thread..
If it had said graphic pic in the beginning.. i personally wouldnt have opened the thread because i dont want to see a pig with its throat chopped up..The pig dosent look like it had a humane death at ALL..and stuff like that does bother me... (and your opinion on that means nothing to me..truly... so save yourself the trouble of typing out a witty reply..

So.. THATS the point.. NOT about where our meat comes from...
And you are being very rude to this mother... how dare you judge how she raises her child and what she deems okay for her child to see... how dare you.. wow.. talk about low blows....
I would be ashamed of myself ...

A dead animal meant for food is not graphic!!! Ground up animal in the grocery store looks worst than a intact slaughtered animal. And yes like I said my child lives in the real world and knows exactly how her food gets to the table.

you are seriously misguiding what is graphic if you believe a animal with its throat slit and bloody is not graphic. so by your own theory a human with a bloody slit throat is not graphic right? because we are just animals too. how about porn too? because someday all our kids are going to be sexually mature adults, why not pop in a video and show them just how babies are made. NO, we don't do that because there is an appropriate time and place for them to learn these things. if I decide my 3yo does not need to know these things just yet thats ok and does not mean my child lives in lala land or that I am somehow a bad parent.

babyblue, What do you do when you walk into a restaurant with your three year old and see a mounted buck head? Do you leave because it's graphic? Just wondering.

no its not bloody and has not obviously recently still been alive. to a child a mounted animal head is really no different then a stuffed animal = fake and not real.

I agree. I know that I wouldn't show that picture to my five-year old. She has seen dead animals, and knows where our food comes from. She has helped me bury animals here that died of old age or from failure to thrive. She knows we eat animals, but I also know that some things bother her, and THAT would bother her. Yes, she is sensitive, more so than some children. I know that the photo would probably lead to many nights of bad dreams for her. That's why violent images are rated on tv and movies. Some kids can handle it, some can't. Children are different, adults are different, there's no need to criticize and belittle others because they aren't just like you.

OK, back to the piggies

kryptoniteqhs I think you did right by butchering that poor piggy - that hernia looked bad and I would not have wanted to feed it out even for a couple weeks. Sometimes at auction you can get a good deal because you are willing to take home and deal with a problem like this. If I was in doubt about the meat "being healthy for me regardings meds" then I would have food for the dogs

Can we see a picture of the others?

The pig dosent look like it had a humane death at ALL

I'll "save you the witty response" but will address this for anyone who is wondering. The pig's throat is generally slit after death. Not during or before. A well-placed shot, in the center of an X between ears and eyes, drops the pig and then it's neck is slit, hung and drained. In fast-paced commercial slaughter it's not unheard of to have a hog slip through the cracks and be slit while still alive, but I don't know anyone (though I'm sure sickos exist) that would hang and slit a live hog and slitting a live hog on the ground would be quite a chore. They may be short and round but they're incredibly strong even when they're little. I can see where that does look like it would have been painful, if you didn't know the hog was shot first.
