Can someone explain pin feathers and why some people pick them? I think that my rooster has some around his neck. He is maybe between 17 and 19 weeks I guess. He's young in any case. Why, if I am correct, does he have them like this when my older hens don't?

I guess I'm asking for all info on pin feathers. [IMG] Thank you.

Pin feathers are only a big deal when you want a clean carcass. Are you planning on slaughtering him?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! I am not going to kill my rooster. Oh, I couldn't even think about it. I'm a vegetarian. [IMG] So I don't have to worry about them? they going to go away or at least where you can't see them?

Pin feathers are the new feathers that you see growing in. All chickens get them at all different ages.
