Ditto that. And I wouldn’t worry about identifying the kind of tree - you can just feel the needles by hand. If they prick and hurt your hands, then just leave them be. If they are lovely and soft rake then up and use them.If they're the long soft needled of the White pine type then they will make good litter in your run.
I wouldn't use short, sharp spruce or red pine needles on purpose, but if they got caught up in the grass bagger or the lawn sweeper I wouldn't worry much either.
