Pine Shavings in My Water: Advice

If you do elevate the waterer on a block or brick, be sure to make sure they don't knock it over and spill all their water.

Hanging is a nice way to overcome this. You can also secure it to a post with bungees.

I had the same problem!!

We put the water jug on a extra square of tile flooring, that why they couldnt knock it down. or you could just put down a piece of wood as previously suggested.
Good Luck!!

I went into the husband's barn today and stole a block of wood (trust me, he'll never miss it from in there), scooped away some of the shavings so it wasn't too high, and put it on that. At first it was very scary. Then it was totally awesome and we all had to peck at it. Then we finally took a few drinks, so I knew they were ok. Still flinging a few shavings in during our crazy fly/run sessions, but otherwise seems to do the trick for now. From what I'm seeing on here though, we'll probably have to graduate to higher blocks before we move into our coop and can use our big girl waterer...but we seem to have solved the current problem! Thanks for the info!

I have been battling the same issue. I have set both the feeder and waterer up on 2 2x4's but they still fill it. I tried placeing rocks around the bowl of the waterer to limit what they can put in there, but they still manage to fill it. At this point I have just given up and back to cleaning the waterers a couple times a day....

Wow! These are all great ideas. I put them up on blocks last night and it seems to have worked for now. I love the idea of a separate 'platform' that the food and water is set on.

I have reverted now to Glad bowls with lids! These will sit the waterer and feeder up a bit higher and seems to be working better. I am going to bring my wood planks back inside though and sit the bowls up on them and they will raise them up even a little more. This is just until we get our new feeder and waterers from a friend that can be hung.
