pine shavings = mites?

    OK, I may be remembering wrong but..... I was told when I was younger that the big bales of pine shavings from the feed store are more likely to contain mites. I never cared at the time so I didn't fully pay attention, I lived in the city and only had pet mice and never needed that size. Is this true? I wanted to get some because we now have 1 dwarf rabbit, 2 rats, 2 siberian dwarf hampters and now 9 chicks (8 more in bator and picking up another 6 at PO) and the nice plastic wrapped big package from the pet store just isn't cutting it.

    At least the 1 hermit crab, 2 cats, and 2 dogs don't need the shavings [​IMG] , Oh and it's great the 6 kids don't need them either
