It really doesnt matter, because those ducks wouldnt be able to fly anyways.... I think pinioning is a good thing, Some birds like exotic geese I think should. Then they can be free ranges without worrying about them flying and hurting themselves....
We clip the flight wings on our Call ducks, but I couldn't bring myself to pinion them (nor would I want to). Our other ducks are all flightless (Cayugas and Indian Runners).

Well, these ducks do fly, only a few feet off the ground and only between 20-30 yards at a time, they aren't exotic geese, they are ducks, and all the years we've had ducks and even when we had geese, they never hurt them selves while flying, not trying to be a jerk or anything, just pointing out we'll have to agree to disagree!
and its always nice to have someone with a different opinion on here!
I'm no fan of pinioning and would not have a breed or species where that was legally necessary. However, with your duck, the deed is done and you can't change it. Just give her a good life, she should be fine. I have no idea why anyone would do that to her.
I don't like Pinioning either, but with some breeds you have to pinion them by law. I think thats only for Muscovies..?
Migratory ducks could be included also....
Yeah, I told my wife "well her wing maybe pinioned, but her babies won't be!" I'm excited for this spring to get here so we can hatch some out! Now, to jump the fence and agree with rosecomb-ryan, I could see someone having it done if they were buying swans from a catalog at $2500.00 a pair, that's a HUGE investment to have just up and fly away, but I will never do it nor purchase bird that expensive to want it happened. So I can see that maybe, but I still don't like it
I have call ducks and I didn't want to trim their feathers (To scared to do that..) so I just put fenceing over the top of their run and so far its working really well!

I can see muscovies because I know in arkansas your not supposed to buy them unless you plan on eating them i.e. your not supposed buy them if you plan to breed them because they are an "invasive species" and go wild real easy but here we've never had a problem with buying intacted mallards so I'm not sure if they are included?
