This morning there was a strange egg in the coop. It is small and pink. This egg is different than any other egg I've gotten to date. I have 4 guinea males and one female that are a year old. I assumed right away that it must be a guinea egg because it looks SO different than my chicken eggs that I have. Could it be a guinea egg? I read on the forum that guinea eggs are brown. This was definitely NOT brown and very definitely PINK. I put it in the incubator thinking it was a guinea egg... now I'm confused. :) Thanks for the help!

My current crew is Rhode Island reds, Red Sex Links, White Plymouth Rocks, Belgian D'uccles and one White Plymouth Rock/Light Brahma mix. I've been getting varying shades of brown eggs with the D'uccles giving small white eggs.

I've gotten pinkish eggs from JGs and Orps.
But I have a couple Black Penedesencas that routinely lay pink and plum eggs.

I'm convinced there are many chemicals that get applied during and after shell formation. When some of those are missing the result is pink.

So... it's NOT a guinea egg?

Borrowing an image from guineafowl.com - a most awesome site, even if I feel someone needs to redo their design for them :) The information is wonderful.

That centre one is the guinea egg. Is that the shape of the egg you found?

You know I believe it was - it's at home in the bator... But I remember thinking... wow it's pink and so oddly shaped.

Pink can happen with brown egg layers. So, if it's the shape of that second one and a light pinky-brown....it's not unreasonable that it is a guinea egg.

I get lots of different shades of eggs from my Guinea Hens... pure white, slightly green, slightly lavender, and tons in the beige/tan color range with some leaning towards mauve/pink too....and then lots that are speckled. As long as it's extra pointy at the small end and fat at the big end like Kilsharion's pic I'd bet it's a Guinea egg.
Hope it hatches!
