pink growth near outer corner of eye and bill of golden 300 duck

I loaned my phone to a friend and won't have it back until next week.  it is a large bump on her heel with obvious swelling to her middle toe.  there is no scab and i can't see or feel anything in it other than that large solid bump.  i am using dermavet until clear iodine arrives, hopefully soon.  i've been giving her warm water baths, but she just seems to be getting worse.  i am starting her on duramycin-10 today and i hope that helps her.  i'll keep you posted.  and thanks!

If there is a nugget of pus in there, it needs to come out. Even if you had the strongest antibiotic to give, it wouldn't help.

kathy, thank you so much for the valuable information. we will try "surgery" tonight. any suggestions on improvising a boot for a duck? we've got very limited supplies out here. thank you again. timbi

is there anything i can give her for pain prior to surgery? i can get my hands on aspirin and meloxicam, but unless there is an herb or essential oil i can use, i'm very limited. even a small amount of pressure seems to cause her pain and i know surgery will be rough.

Do you have Meloxicam for people or pets? Meloxicam is used in birds, but the dose is quite small. As for a boot, can you get telfa pads, gauze roll and vet wrap?

thank you for your reply. i have meloxicam for people, 15 mg tablets. will that work?

thankfully, i also have all the other items you mentioned. we have a very sharp knife and i'm assuming we only make a very small cut and try to push material out. after her soak last night, when my husband was applying the dermavet ointment, he noticed he has developed a tiny dark spot near the webbing of her toe, so that may be the irritant... i will research the actual surgery so i have a better idea of what i'm doing.

thank you, again. i truly appreciate the help.

How is your duck?

Regarding the Meloxicam, I think the dose is minuscule, maybe something like 0.25 mg per pound? Google avian medicine and Meloxicam and see what you can find.

thanks for your reply, kathy. duck is doing better. i've been giving her a crushed 1/4 of a 15 mg tablet hidden in a pea and it seems to help her a lot. she is getting quite a bit of rest. now i have another one limping out there that i have to catch today. wish me luck!
