First time doing this. We are so excited. One pip when I got home from work.

The pip looks low to me. It has been like this for the past 4 hours, no movement/sounds. Is this normal?

It is a bit low. Did the chick pip in the fat end of the egg?

No. It is kind of in the middle. Looks like it is making progress(slowly). The second one to pip last night is already out and looks great!

Congrats! As long as it's making progress and zipping it's good.

Thank you! we are so excited. ou:Dr very first baby chick. It's really not zipping. Just kind of making the whole bigger. But happy progress is being made. Guess it has other plans on how to make an entrance.:)

It is just staying in the same position and pecking? Doesn't seem to be turning? I wouldn't think it is stuck to the shell. The other one was nice and moist when it came out. Is it just in a bad position and can't turn? Sorry for all of the questions but it has been in this position since yesterday. It is very diligent about pecking but not going anywhere? :(

I was wondering about this, but hoping it will be o.k. But it sounds like it may not be able to turn in the egg, so it can zip. How many hours has it been since he pipped? If it was around 24 hours ago you can investigate and see if the little guy needs a hand with the sipping part at least. Take a clean pair of tweezers and from either side of the pip hole break off little bits of shell. If you grab a little bit of the shell in the tweezers and squeeze it, it would break off. Just break of tiny pieces like this and slowly work your way around the egg, like the chick would when it zips. Don't touch the inner membrane that is covering the chick, except to dampen it a little with clean water. You can use a Q-tip for this. Just give it a wipe and check for blood vessels. If you see any bright red, active vessels, the chick is not ready to come out. Put it back in the incubator then and leave it for at least another 2 hours before continuing. If you have removed enough of the shell to allow the chick to pick out before it's ready, you can stop it getting ideas by wrapping the egg in a damp cloth, leaving the open bit clear, and placing it upright in a cup or something small. Once you have a clear membrane with no visible, active vessels, work your way down to the chick's belly area and check it's navel, to make sure there is no active vessels or visible yolk sac there. Once that is clear you can remove enough of the inner membrane to allow the chick to wiggle out of the egg by itself.

It was about 3pm yesterday it is now 1pm. Should I give this a go. Will it hurt the other eggs if I open the door. They have not piped yet? Thank you.
