Those are so cute, I have to get some babies next spring. We are new at this and started with 11 weekers. The chicks are too cute, I can't resist........must build bigger coop.

Sorry for the ones that didnt make it. But you have some BEAUTIES there!Congrats again!

The last Orp is out, but not doing well. The shell, even though the baby pipped, was getting that shriveled, dessicated look and the membrane looked like typing paper, it was so tough. DH chipped the baby out, because he cant stand to let one just die in the shell, but it isn't opening its eyes, etc. Don't know why since the humidity was really great. This appears to be a splash or a very light blue-darn! That's what I wanted. However, the feet say cockerel. Every splash Orp I've ever hatched has been a boy and I want a splash pullet! We'll see if it gets its sea legs, but I'm not holding out alot of hope for it. Oh, well, c'est la vie. If it never gets its strength, just have to hope for next time.

You never know... your little splash may pull through with flying (blue) colors. Hatching is tiring in the best of circumstances--can't say I know that from direct personal experience, as I didn't come in that way, haha. But with a dry membrane it would be even moreso. However chickens are so resilient! Yolk absorbed, the little baby doesn't have to do anything but rest and keep warm to gather strength. If the problem was the membrane, I bet the little splash will be okay.

If not, you'll know that y'all did everything possible.

Beautiful pictures of your others.

They alway look so surprised (and a bit disgruntled) when they come out.
