Pipd's Peeps 2014!

Our monthly pictures for 11 months old! Miss Poppy is a week older, of course! These were taken yesterday because it was rainy and dreary today.

Elda, my lovey Elly-Welly :love

Kit-Kit, always on the move:

1000

Georgie's very serious about her food:

1000

Mabel, who I had to wait on because she was dust bathing at first (see pictures in one of the coming posts ;) ) :

1000

And Poppy, who is perpetually uncooperative for her pictures:

1000

Edited because, LOL, pistures.

The obligatory Elda-cuddles pictures. :love

1000

Elly knew something was up. She's been extra clingy since we lost Louise. I love it when they try to cheer me up. :love

1000

And here's Elly stretching it out. The two Dorkings made me laugh yesterday when I brought out the camera. They both immediately went off and started preening, like they were getting gussied up for their pictures. This was how Elly finished her preening:

1000

Georgie girl! It was around 76 out yesterday, and apparently that's much too hot for Georgette. I hate to think how she'll react as the summer wears on!

1000

And here's Mabel rolling around in her dust bath.

1000

For this picture, I messed with her until she sat up properly. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get a good standing picture of her (she was taking her time!) so I thought this would be the next best thing. Turns out, she came out not long after this!

Edited for a quick fixer-upper

A few more from the young ladies. :D

Here is a sweetie-face from Elly. She was wondering if that was all she was getting for cuddles. (It wasn't. :love )

1000

Kit-kit's own version of the sweetie-face. I was trying to take pictures of Mabel through the pop door, but apparently Kit needed that attention.

1000

Poppy. See, I knew she could pose pretty!

1000

Some Dorking love, with Georgie muscling her way in as well.

1000

Poppy again. She was fed up with the picture-taking!

1000

Poppy's comb seemed to shoot up in the past week or two. She started laying a few weeks ago and it was pretty tame then, but since then it has grown. I call it a rumple-comb.

1000

And to finish off, a select few pictures from the rest of the flock!

Here's Frou-Frou getting a nice wattle-scritching. :love But she's still mad at me for not bringing her in at night!

1000

Ihi the crazy Campine. I love her eyes!

1000

Pogonip! Poggy had me seriously worried for a short while there. She was just not acting right. Then, she started sitting in the nests. I thought for sure she was not feeling well, but when I pulled her out, she puffed up like a spotted beach ball and tucked my hands up under her wings. For the first time in her 3 years, she's brooding! :th Oh, and look closely in this picture to find her. She was doing her best to blend in. (She's the only hen in the box. )

1000

Roha says, "Love me!" What a ham! She saw the camera and came running to pose perfectly!

1000

Skua--Look at this face! :love

1000

Rosie the sassy little Sebright and her wicked expressions. "Get your hands off of me, crazy lady!!"

1000

And Betty's saying, "What about me?"

She did, it was the sweetest thing! :love I pulled her off the nest (I don't really want a broody, so I'm trying to snap her out of it), and when I set her down on one of the perches, she snapped her wing in on my hand. Then, she began shifting her wings around like she was trying to nestle it under her just so. Not sure if she thought I was an egg or a chick, but it was too adorable! :love

It's nice to see you got new birds, Kristin (even though this thread is about a year old now). I used to follow your flock picture projects and i participated in your community flock projects. I love your pictures and your flock and it was nice to see some new pictures and stories. So sorry about the hens you lost though. I loved Vespa.

I came over to here to read more about Louise and Morgaine. Having Mai as a Meyers BCM is making me nervous. She was very dark as a chick and doesn't seem to be nearly as big as her CCL hatch mate.

This made me giggle. My silkies didn't start laying until Nov/Dec 2014. Angel, my white one goes broody quite often...I usually just take her out of the nest box and walk her to the run (in another area). One day she wrapped herself around my (admittedly freezing cold) hand and refused to let go. I was not aware that other hens did this too. I thought it was her way of warming me back up to normal body temperature!

Oh, welcome! :D I was thinking of starting up the 100 pictures project again, but then things came up at the end of last year and I never finished writing up the new checklist for this year. Hmm, maybe I'll get working on that again for this summer...

Oh, fingers crossed for your little Mai! :fl Hopefully it was just a coincidence that Louise and Morgaine had problems and your girl can live a full, happy life!

Heehee, it's the sweetest thing! :love I got it on video this evening when I pulled Poggy off the nest! If she feels anything underneath her, an egg, a hand, a flashlight, she starts at it! I'm getting that uploaded as I type! :D

Here it is! It felt like she was trying to push my hand into just the right spot. She looks like she's trying to pump herself up like a balloon! She also did this with an egg, a flashlight, and air when I moved away too soon.

(And don't mind our mess... We've been experiencing and awful lot of mud lately...)
