Here it is! It felt like she was trying to push my hand into just the right spot. She looks like she's trying to pump herself up like a balloon! She also did this with an egg, a flashlight, and air when I moved away too soon.
(And don't mind our mess...We've been experiencing and awful lot of mud lately...)
Broodies are riots. My broodies always sit on other hens. Sometimes a bird will go missing, and I'll check the best box to find their poor head poking out of a broody's wing. Hope you didn't have to much trouble removing your hand from under her. Haha.
So funny! I wish my Silkie would go broody! Love all the pics!
Haha, usually my only broody is my Silkie, Marge. The others get fed up with her hogging a box, and usually I find her underneath someone else! Tilde did the same thing a couple pages back, bottom of the pile. She wasn't quite brooding at that point, though.
Poggy did have quite the grip on my hand there! She practically wraps her wings under her stomach trying to shift things just so. She was doing it again today when I pulled her out of the nest--again--and put her on the feed shed (don't worry, it's only 4 feet tall). She kept deflating into a broody puddle, then puffing herself up and pulling my hand underneath her again. She really gets round! Then she sat there for about 30 minutes after I left her, until finally she snapped out of it, stood up, and flew down.
You mean she hasn't yet?! How old is she?Margie went broody within a few weeks of laying her first egg! She literally lays 3 eggs a month because she spends so much time brooding! (And yes, she's currently going broody, too, after laying her third egg of the month a few days ago. Springtime, ugh!)

Angel, my white silkie, laid daily for about 2-3 months and then went broody. Now she goes broody ALL the time. King, my buff silkie hen (thought she was a he since the beginning, hence the name), has only gone broody once for about two days and then snapped out of it. She doesn't really seem all that interested. And she gets really annoyed if Angel is hogging the lone nest box when she's ready to lay an egg.
Lol. Broodies are quite the shapeshifters. I only have six birds, but my Silkie, two EEs, and Naked Neck all used to go broody very frequently.
Sometimes, you just never know what goes on in those little heads of theirs.![]()
Amen!Ain't that the truth!
My Silkie is only like a week away from turning a year old. She only started laying late last month/early this month. You mean she hasn't yet?!
