Pipd's Peeps!

Yeah, English Orpingtons are very similar in shape to Cochins, just lacking the feathered feet. I love the Cochins' fluff tails, especially when I mess with them and they feel the need to shake their tail feathers out. :love

I'll have to go check out your pictures. :D And maybe post my own, since I haven't posted over there in such a long time.

Your mottled cochins remind me of the laced orps I got in their body shape. I posted some photos over on the Indiana thread. (Your photos inspired me to go take some of my own this afternoon.)
cochins were used to make a lot of breeds. The shape may well come from their genetics

Wow, I definitely didn't know that! Makes so much sense! Dorkings definitely have a similar laid back and lovable personality to Orps. Well, the LF Cochins do, too, I suppose. :p Hmm, now I'm kind of interested in what would happen if I crossed the two... :D

Really busy right now finishing up the semester, but I just wanted to stop by with a quick bit of news. Myrna started squatting yesterday!! She and Kita are reddening up, and her comb and wattles in particular are growing fast! Looks like I might actually start getting eggs again soon! :D You know, besides the little teeny-tiny ones that Vira's been laying. :p

I have a big group project due Monday, so I'll likely spend the weekend on that. (Yes, we had way more time than this to get it done. My group hasn't exactly been strong in the communication department. :he ) Then, I have one last thing to turn in on Tuesday, and a final exam (in essay form) that will probably be due a week from Tuesday, and then I'm done! :th Point being, I probably won't be posting much through all of this. See y'all on the other side!

EDIT December 1: Myrna appears to have laid an egg today and it's HUGE for a first timer! Hoping that's not an indication of future issues! It does not appear to be a double yolk, but I've only candled so I can't be sure. I will get some pictures put up soon. Josephine also has come back into lay (and laid her egg in the dropping tray again :he ) so I have a regular egg to compare it to as well. Yay, eggs!

SO, I guess I'm not so busy anymore. I only had the one class to go to on Thursday, so I approached my professor this evening and explained that it's a long drive only for this one class... He said if I just write a summary of the two papers the class would be discussing on Thursday that I didn't need to come. :yesss: So, all that's left to do is that and the final, which is turned in online and due a week from Thursday. Plenty of time!

Anyway, so about Myrna's first egg... Well, I grabbed a couple pictures of it that night, but they aren't very good. Unfortunately, someone ATE it before I could get better pictures. :he That wouldn't be a huge deal, but I try to keep everyone's first egg. So much for that! Anyway, I guess this is as good as it gets for a picture of that egg. That's an egg from Josephine (which is, itself, on the large side for her), a tiny Vira egg, and what I'm still assuming was poor Myrna's first egg:

Hello, everyone! Well, the semester is officially over! My grades should come in in the next few days, but it looks like it was an all A semester. :)

Anyway, to celebrate, here's a bunch of pictures I took today! :D And I do mean a bunch!! I took the time to get individual pictures of the kids, too. The silkied Cochins are 7 months old, the Mottleds and Dorks just under 7 months, and the Marans are just over 9 months old.

First, the silkied Cochins. Here's Roxy:

Myrna--The only one that posed effortlessly and somehow I didn't get a shot of her that was in focus.

And the Marans. Here's Josephine, who continues to earn the nickname JOSEFIEND! :rant

Hoo, boy, there are a lot more! First, here's Ida being adorable. :love She may or may not have laid her first egg today. I found two identical eggs in the nests tonight, both looking like Vira's, but obviously only one could belong to her. Ida sleeps up in the rafters, so I'll have to check her vent and bone structure tomorrow to confirm. :)

Jasper again. I couldn't decide which picture I liked more of him. He's such a brat, but at least he hasn't attacked me yet.

Nadine, mama to the three Marans girls above. This was the first time that I've ever gotten such a good picture of her without a fight! Usually, she either moves just right so that she's blurred or her head, feet, or tail is outside of the frame!

"You wanna make something of it?!" Yeah, I guess Josephine gets it honest.

In the spirit of the month, here are two French hens. Oh, wait. :p Reinette and Nadine are best buds, and they even hang out with Nadine's kids. :)

Reinette the Wheaten Marans, in a rare moment of interest in me. :love

Mavis. This is what I deal with every time I crouch down to take their pictures.

Cazzie Cochin says, "OI!" :p She was standing at my feet so expectantly.

Good ol' Dym-Dym! Her beard grew in so nicely! :love

Merlin, the oldest Easter-egger in the flock and one of the oldest birds, along with the Wyandottes. I love her eyes! :love

Indigo the super round Black Silkie. :love

Reuben, my main flock man! I hardly ever get good pictures of him, either! :love

Rowena being curious :love :love Oh, those big eyes!

Check out Tessa! She's looking pretty slick these days! :D

And finally, Cazzie again, being super serious!

Now that that's out of my system... :p I guess that's it for now.

Oh, one last tidbit, regarding my last post. I did find out that Myrna is NOT the one laying the big white eggs! Echo came back into lay and I caught her in the act of laying one the other day. Usually, the Dark Gray Dorkings have more tinted eggs, so it must be a matter of the size of it or something? Anyway, I'm now not entirely sure of Myrna is even laying yet or not. She has checked out the nests and I have found the occasional smaller white egg, so maybe?

Thank goodness the semester is over! I'm expecting mostly As as well, with the exception of O chem. Hoping for a C in that class . Really don't want to have to retake it. The week before finals I had 10 assignments due so as you can imagine, I was burnt out well before finals even started. Cheers to the break! Cute pictures. You're gonna have to trim that girl's spur wow.
